Horse milk, the white motor!
- Horse milk : it may sound a
little odd but it is, in fact, quite
straightforward
.
Nomads and Russian tribes roaming
the steppes have been drinking horse
milk since time immemorial to invigorate
themselves. Slowly but surely, the
benefits of the product are gaining
wider recognition in western Europe.
Milking a mare starts six weeks after
foaling, as soon as the foal learns
to be independent of his mothers
udder.
How?
Milking the mares is a mechanical
process, which takes place up to five
times a day or every two and a half
hours. Per milking session, only one
quarter to half a litre of milk is
produced; as the contents of the udder
are limited.
- Quality label
The milk is treated in accordance
with HACCP standards. Additionally,
milk samples are tested by an accredited
laboratory at regular intervals. We
ensure that all our milking equipment
is rinsed after each milking, which
makes the operating costs of drawing
mare milk quite high. Thanks to our
preventative care for quality and
hygiene, we comply with the strict
requirements of the Belgian Horse
Milk Dairy Association, which has
awarded us a quality label.
